How the username generator works
The generator takes up to three words from what you type, drops accents and anything that is not a Latin letter or a digit, and mixes your words with a short word list for the style you pick. Clean adds plain words like "hey" or "daily", creative adds words like "studio" or "pixel", business adds "hq", "team" or "digital", and gaming adds "plays", "gg" or "shadow". It joins the parts with nothing, a period, an underscore or (on YouTube) a hyphen, but only where the network allows them. When a pattern is too long it shortens your words, never below three letters.
Every idea follows the rules of the network you pick:
| Network | Length | Characters |
|---|---|---|
| up to 30 | letters, numbers, . and _ |
|
| TikTok | 2 to 24 | letters, numbers, . and _ (no . at the end) |
| X | 5 to 15 | letters, numbers and _ |
| YouTube | 3 to 30 | letters, numbers, ., _ and - (not at the start or end) |
| Threads | as Instagram | as Instagram |
The generator is stricter than the networks: it never puts a separator at the start or end of a name or two in a row, and it leaves out "admin" and "twitter" on X. Numbers stay off unless you allow them, because a name without a number is easier to say and to remember.
Pick a username people can find
Use the same name on every network if you can, so people who know you on one find you on the others. Read the name out loud: if you have to spell out the periods and underscores, try one without them. Keep it short enough to fit on a business card. Once you have a name, check that it is free on each network, then connect your profiles to PostBoost and schedule your first posts to all of them at once.
