Why split by meaning, not by count
A thread reads well when every post makes sense on its own. Cutting at exactly 280 characters leaves half-sentences and broken links. This tool first tries to keep each paragraph whole, then falls back to sentence ends and only then to word breaks. You get posts that read like you wrote them one by one.
Tips for a thread people finish
- Lead with the payoff. The first post decides whether anyone opens the rest. Say what the reader gets.
- One idea per post. If a post needs two ideas, use
---to split it by hand. - Number long threads. "1/n" tells readers how long the thread is. Short threads often read better without it.
- End with a next step. A link, a question or a call to follow, in the last post rather than the first.
Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon too
The same text often goes to several networks. Pick another network and the thread is re-split for its limit and counting rules. Bluesky counts graphemes, so an emoji is 1. Mastodon counts every link as 23 characters.
