# Social media image sizes, with a free resizer

Every size in one table, each with its source and whether the network itself states it, plus a resizer that crops your image to any of them without uploading it.

## Why the right size matters

Each network crops or scales an image that does not match its expected shape. A landscape photo in a portrait slot loses its edges, a small image on a large slot turns soft, and a banner with text near the edge can lose that text on phones. Starting from the expected size and ratio keeps the crop where you want it.

## How to read the table

Sizes are in pixels, width × height. The ratio column matters most: an image with the right ratio can be scaled cleanly, while the wrong ratio means the network crops it. "Official" rows come from the network's own help or developer pages. "Common practice" rows come from widely used guides because the network publishes no figure. Where sources disagree, the row says so instead of picking one.

Limits such as file size and formats are listed where the source states them. Pages that publish through an API can have tighter limits than the app: Instagram's publishing API, for example, accepts portrait images up to 4:5, while the app also takes 3:4.

## Resizing for several networks

One image rarely fits every network. A common approach is to keep one large original and export a square, a 4:5 portrait and a 1.91:1 landscape version from it, then add the vertical 9:16 version for stories and short video covers. PostBoost lets you attach the right version to each network in the same post and schedule them together.

This page is a reference, not a guarantee: networks change layouts by device and over time, so check the linked source when a placement matters.

## How to use

1. Pick an image from your device (JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, up to 15 MB). It stays in your browser.
2. Choose the network and placement to resize for.
3. Drag the image to choose which part stays inside the crop.
4. Choose PNG or JPEG and download the image at the exact target size.

## FAQ

### What size should an Instagram post be?

Instagram's help page accepts feed images 320 to 1080 pixels wide; at 1080 wide the height can be 566 to 1440 pixels (1.91:1 to 3:4). The common choice is 1080×1350 (4:5), which is also the tallest shape the publishing API accepts; 1080×1440 (3:4) works in the app only.

### What image size works for link previews?

Facebook recommends 1200×630 for og:image (at least 600×315 for a large preview). LinkedIn's link post image is 1200×627. X's large link card uses a 2:1 image of at least 300×157, which we could not confirm on an official X page.

### What does "common practice" mean in the table?

The network publishes no figure we could find, so the row shows the size that the major guides (Sprout Social, Hootsuite) recommend, and names them. Rows marked "official" link to the network's own help or developer page.

### Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The resizer reads the file in your browser and draws the crop on a canvas there. Nothing is sent to PostBoost or stored.

### Will resizing make my image blurry?

Only when the target is larger than your image, because the resizer then has to enlarge it. Start from an image at least as large as the target size, for example 3840×2160 or more for a YouTube thumbnail.

### How current are these sizes?

Each row was checked against its source on the date shown under "Last verified", and the table is re-checked once a year. Networks change their layouts without notice, so check the linked source before a large campaign.
