# Posting frequency planner

Pick your networks and how many posts your team can make in a week. See how often the sources recommend posting on each network, how to split your posts and a weekly grid.

## How often to post on each network

There is no single right number. Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok have large measured studies behind them: Buffer looked at millions of posts and found that 3-5 posts a week on Instagram and 2-5 on LinkedIn and TikTok work well. For Facebook, X, Threads, YouTube and Google Business Profile, the best available numbers are recommendations from social media software companies, and for Pinterest it is Pinterest's own advice to post weekly. The planner shows which kind of evidence each range rests on, with the source and its date.

## How the split works

Most teams cannot hit every range at once, so the planner starts from what you can actually make. It splits your weekly posts across your networks in proportion to the middle of each range, rounds to whole posts that add up to your total, and makes sure every network gets at least one. If your total is below the sum of the minimums, it says so: posting less often than the sources suggest is fine, but it is better to know.

## From plan to schedule

The weekly grid spreads each network's posts evenly over the week, starting on Monday. Use it to set up a posting schedule: in PostBoost you set your posting times once, add posts to the queue and see every network in one calendar. Check your own analytics after a few weeks and move posts to the networks where they do best.

## How to use

1. Tick the networks you post on.
2. Enter how many posts your team can make in a week, from 1 to 200.
3. Read each network's recommended range, with its source, date and the type of evidence behind it.
4. Use the split and the weekly grid as your starting schedule, then adjust it to your own results.

## FAQ

### How often should I post on social media?

It depends on the network. The sources this planner uses recommend 3-5 posts a week on Instagram, 2-5 on LinkedIn and TikTok, 1-2 a day on a Facebook Page, 2-3 a day on X and Threads, and about once a week on Pinterest, YouTube and Google Business Profile. Each range on the page names its source and date.

### How does the planner split my posts?

In proportion to the middle of each network's recommended range (the minimum for an open-ended range like 1+), rounded to whole posts that add up to your capacity. Every network gets at least one post when you have at least one post per network. When you have fewer, the networks with the highest recommended frequency get them.

### Why do sources disagree?

They measure different things. For LinkedIn, Buffer's study of over 2 million posts recommends 2-5 posts a week, while Hootsuite recommends 1-2 posts a day. Where a measured study exists, the planner uses it; otherwise it uses vendor or platform guidance and says so.

### What do measured, vendor and platform mean?

Measured is a study of real posts with a stated sample. Vendor is a recommendation from a social media software company. Platform is guidance from the network itself. The planner shows the type next to each range, so you can judge how much weight to give it.

### Why isn't Bluesky listed?

We could not find a published posting frequency for Bluesky, or for Mastodon, that we could verify. Rather than guess, the planner leaves them out until a source exists.

### Does posting more often always help?

Not always. Buffer's Instagram study found that extra posts still add reach, but each one adds less, and Pinterest says quality and relevance matter more than frequency. Treat the ranges as a starting point and check your own analytics.

### Can an AI agent use this planner?

Yes. The same plan is on the free PostBoost API and MCP server, so an agent gets the ranges, sources, split and weekly grid in one call. Nothing you type on this page is sent anywhere.
