# Link preview checker (Open Graph)

Paste a link to see the title, description and image each network would pick for its preview card, the tags we found on the page, and what to fix before you share it.

## What a link preview is made of

When you paste a link into a post, the network sends a crawler to the page and builds a card from a few tags in its `<head>`: a title, a short description and an image. Most networks read the Open Graph tags (`og:title`, `og:description`, `og:image`). X reads its own `twitter:` card tags first and falls back to Open Graph. When a page has neither, networks guess from the HTML title, and the card often comes out bare.

## Fix these first

- **No image.** Without `og:image` most networks show a small or text-only card that gets fewer clicks. Use an absolute `https://` URL to a 1200 × 630 px image.
- **Titles that run long.** X documents a 70-character maximum for the card title. Keep the title around 60 characters and the description under about 160 so it reads well everywhere.
- **The wrong page.** If the canonical URL or a redirect points to another page, networks may show that page's card instead.
- **Old copies.** Networks cache previews. After you fix the tags, refresh the cache with LinkedIn's Post Inspector or Facebook's Sharing Debugger.

## Put the link to work

Once the card looks right, tag the link with our UTM builder so the clicks from each network show up in your analytics, and preview the whole post with the post preview tool. In PostBoost you can schedule the post to every network from one calendar and give each network its own version of the text.

## How to use

1. Paste the full link, starting with https://.
2. Press Check. We load the page once, the way a link preview crawler does.
3. Compare the X, LinkedIn, Facebook and chat cards, then read the warnings.
4. Fix the tags on your site and check again before you post the link.

## FAQ

### Why does LinkedIn or Facebook still show my old preview?

Networks keep a copy of each link's preview for a while. This checker reads your page as it is now. To refresh a network's copy, run the link through LinkedIn's Post Inspector or Facebook's Sharing Debugger.

### Which tags does X use for link cards?

X reads its own twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image tags, and falls back to og:title, og:description and og:image when a twitter tag is missing. X documents a 70-character maximum for the title and 200 for the description.

### What size should my og:image be?

1200 × 630 px (a 1.91:1 ratio) works across networks. LinkedIn asks for at least 1200 × 627 px and shows images under 401 px wide as a small thumbnail. Use an absolute https:// URL and add og:image:width and og:image:height.

### Does the checker run JavaScript?

No. It reads the HTML your server sends, the way link preview crawlers usually do. If your tags are added by JavaScript after the page loads, this checker will not see them, and many crawlers will not either.

### How many links can I check?

This page and the Free Tools API allow 20 checks a day per IP address without an API token. With a free PostBoost account, call the API with your token for 200 checks a day.

### Do you store the page?

No. We read the first 1 MB of the page and only its preview tags, keep the result for an hour so a repeat check is instant, and never store the page or the image.
