# Instagram hashtag generator

Start from a curated hashtag set for your niche, pick the 5 tags that fit this exact post, and copy them in one click.

## How the generator works

Pick the niche that is closest to your account. Below the box you get a curated set of about 20 hashtags that are commonly used in that niche, and the first 5 go into the box. Click a tag to add it to the box or take it out, or edit the box by hand, for example to add your own brand or campaign tag. Since December 2025 Instagram allows 5 hashtags per post or reel, so the box holds 5 tags and the counter warns you when a hand edit goes over.

When AI suggestions are switched on, you can also describe the post in a sentence. The AI suggests 5 to 10 tags that fit that specific topic. They are added to the top of the set without duplicates, and the best 5 fill the box. AI suggestions are a draft: read them before posting, because a tag can carry a meaning you did not expect.

## Choosing hashtags that fit

Treat hashtags as labels, not as a way to reach everybody. With only 5 tags per post, each one has to describe the post. A useful set usually mixes three kinds of tags:

- One or two broad tags that describe the topic, such as #travel or #fitness.
- Two or three specific tags that describe this post, such as #solotravel or #homeworkout.
- Your own tag: a brand tag, a campaign tag or a community tag your followers already use.

Before you reuse a tag, open it on Instagram and look at the recent posts. If they have nothing to do with your post, or the tag is full of spam, leave it out. Rotate your sets rather than pasting the same block on every post, so each post carries tags that actually match it.

## Save time on every post

Writing hashtags is one small step of publishing. In PostBoost you can save hashtag groups, write the caption once and schedule it to Instagram and your other networks from one place.

## How to use

1. Pick the niche closest to your account.
2. Keep the first 5 tags, or click tags in the set to swap them in and out of the box.
3. When AI suggestions are on, describe the post and add topic-specific tags.
4. Remove tags that do not describe the post, then copy and paste them into your caption or first comment.

## FAQ

### How many hashtags can an Instagram post have?

Instagram allows up to 5 hashtags on a post or reel since December 2025 (it was 30 before). The generator never puts more than 5 tags in the box, and the PostBoost composer checks the same limit for Instagram posts.

### Where do the hashtag sets come from?

The niche sets are written by the PostBoost team from hashtags commonly used in each niche. They are a starting point, not a promise of reach. Check a tag on Instagram before you rely on it.

### What do the AI suggestions add?

When the AI part is switched on, it reads your topic and suggests 5 to 10 tags that fit that post. They go to the top of the set and the best 5 fill the box. AI suggestions can be wrong, so review them before posting.

### Do hashtags still matter on Instagram?

Hashtags help Instagram and people understand what a post is about and make it findable through hashtag search. They work best as accurate labels, together with a clear caption and keywords.

### Should hashtags go in the caption or the first comment?

Either works for discovery. The caption keeps everything in one place; the first comment keeps the caption shorter. Pick one approach and use it consistently.

### Is what I type stored?

Picking a niche and editing the set happens in your browser. If you use AI suggestions, the topic is sent to PostBoost and our AI provider to generate tags; the result is cached so the same request is not generated twice.
