# Hashtag group builder

Paste hashtags or plain keywords in any shape. The builder adds the missing #, cuts tags at punctuation, drops duplicates and number-only tags, checks how many hashtags the network allows and splits the list into groups you can copy in one click.

## How the builder cleans your list

Paste whatever you have: a block of tags copied from an old post, a column from a spreadsheet, or plain words. Spaces, commas and new lines separate the entries, and a `#` in the middle of a word starts a new tag, so `#travel#photo` becomes two. Each entry gets a `#` if it has none, and ends at the first character that cannot be part of a hashtag. Letters from any alphabet, digits and underscores stay. Tags made only of digits go, and so do duplicates, whatever their case. Pick lower case to make every tag lower case.

## Groups that fit the cap

Each network has its own hashtag rules. Instagram now allows 5 per post, so the builder makes groups of 5 for Instagram and warns when you choose a bigger group. Facebook groups default to 30. Where there is no hard cap, groups default to 5, a size that reads well anywhere. Every group shows how many characters it adds to your caption.

## Inline or first comment

One line gives you the tags separated by spaces, ready for the end of a caption. First comment puts five lines with a dot above the tags, so the comment shows the dots first and the tags sit below the fold.

## Save your groups

Sign up for free and save each group as a hashtag group in PostBoost. In the post editor you insert a saved group in one click, and the editor counts hashtags per network before the post goes out.

## How to use

1. Paste your hashtags or keywords, separated by spaces, commas or new lines.
2. Pick the network so the builder knows its hashtag cap.
3. Leave the group size empty to use the cap, or type your own.
4. Choose One line, or First comment to put five dot lines above the tags.
5. Copy a group and paste it into your caption, your first comment or PostBoost.

## FAQ

### How many hashtags can I use on Instagram?

Five per post or reel. Instagram announced the cap on 18 December 2025, replacing the old limit of 30, and PostBoost checks the same 5 before it schedules an Instagram post. The builder makes groups of 5 for Instagram unless you pick another size, and warns when a group is larger.

### What is a hashtag group?

A saved set of hashtags you use again and again, for example one per topic or per client. Instead of typing tags from memory, you paste the set that fits the post. In PostBoost you can save hashtag groups and insert them in the post editor.

### Why did some of my hashtags change or disappear?

A hashtag ends at the first character that is not a letter, a digit or an underscore, as on the networks, so #photo!graphy becomes #photo. Tags with only numbers, like #2026, do not work as hashtags and are removed. So are duplicates, with any mix of upper and lower case: the first spelling stays. Open the removed list to see each one and why.

### Should hashtags go in the caption or the first comment?

Both work for discovery on Instagram, and Instagram has not said whether tags in the first comment count toward the 5. Choose First comment to get five dot lines above the tags, which keeps them below the fold of the comment. Keep the total for the post to 5 either way.

### Which networks have a hashtag limit?

PostBoost checks 5 hashtags on Instagram and 30 on Facebook. LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon and YouTube have no hard hashtag cap in PostBoost, so the builder makes groups of 5 there by default. Fewer, specific tags usually read better on every network.

### Is my list sent anywhere?

No. The builder runs in your browser and nothing you paste is sent to PostBoost.
